My Journey

I’m Adrienne… a grief doula, educator, and artist on my own journey of healing. This work began from my own heart-wrenching experiences of loss and the transformative power I discovered through art. When my childhood best friend and soul sister, Paola Sciarrillo, died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 22, I was left with an overwhelming, unspoken grief. I didn’t know what to do with the pain, until I began to make art. That creative act became my lifeline, a way to give voice to the love and loss swelling inside me.

My path has been marked by many kinds of loss: the profound sorrow of losing a soul sister, the jolt of ending an engagement, the hidden heartache of miscarriages, and even the complex grief surrounding a deeply personal decision to have an abortion.  Through these experiences and more, I learned that grief isn’t merely an emotion, it’s the pain of unexpressed love held in our bodies.

“Grief is love that has nowhere to go; art is our access, bringing light to dark places.”

I discovered that when we allow ourselves to name our loss and translate our pain into creative expression, we restore and reclaim our capacity to live well and love fully.

Inspired by my time at Spirit Weavers Gatherings in Oregon, I  now host intimate gatherings in people’s homes, designed for mourning on purpose. During this time together, we don’t fix grief; we witness it together. I guide grieving women through art processes that honor what’s been lost and reveal the hidden reservoirs of love within. As one participant put it, “I didn’t think I had anything left to say about my grief, but this process showed me there was more love inside me that I had been afraid to touch.” Each session is a love letter to what was lost and a call to honor that love.

I believe that grief is not just something to endure; it’s a profound initiation that reshapes who we are. It strips away illusions, deepens our connection to what truly matters, and invites us to move through life with renewed clarity. When we come together to express our grief through art, we step into an ancient, sacred practice that transforms isolation into connection and pain into possibility.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know my story. If you’re ready to explore your grief through creative expression or simply need someone to walk with you on this journey, I’m here. Let’s transform pain into purpose together.
